Business need
Lifecycle Asset Management was seen by the organisation as a key element of their Outsourced services, both for managing all the assets under their care with each Outsourced contract, and to provide value to their customers.
Total Lifecycle Asset Management - leading to Service Improvement
ITAM as the Cornerstone to Managed Services: Managing all of the particular attributes of identified assets (configuration items) is fundamental to making outsourced managed services profitable and at the same time cost-effective for the customer. These attributes include Lease Management, Contracts, service, Warranty, refresh, organisation wide Problem Management, and procurement. In addition having up-to-date views of all asset related information within the Service Management toolset provided efficiency to servicing, helped to meet SLAs, and overall lowered the cost of servicing CI's.
Managing 'Cost of Service' while delivering the highest 'Quality of Service': Having an up to the minute view of what IT assets were actually under contract for each Outsourced contract was seen as critical to managing the costs of the service provision. At the same time ensuring the organisation were delivering and met agreed SLA's with a high Quality of Service.

Solution

The solution involved developing robust ITAM processes with an ITIL framework perspective. These processes were then aligned and implemented within the organisation's 'best of breed' Enterprise Asset Management toolset. Access to the Asset system was made available through a Self-Service Portal available over the Web.

Lifecycle Asset Management (ITAM) evolution and maturity diag

The toolset utilises middleware to integrate to external applications such as ITSM and ServiceDesk, Financial Application, and Procurement Portal. Lifecycle Asset Management provides extensive capability way beyond that of the Asset Management within the Financial system, however financial data remained in the Financial database. The Oracle database was the standard platform for all systems.

Manage Change - Managers need to accept the fact that organisational change is inevitable, and, it's pace is quickening. Basic economics dictates that an organisation must constantly adapt or risk failure. The introduction of new technologies, new global competitors, new legislation, new management, new customers, new ideas, new geopolitical shocks/crises, new investors, etc., force organisations to change the way they do business.

Get CBA Consulting to ensure the 'Change' aspects of any ITIL alignment or the implementation of your AM toolset, processes, or Service Management technology.

"The only constant in IT is change. Consolidation, globalisation, outsourcing, compliance. One paradigm shift displaced by the next and a relentless focus on cost. The business has little tolerance for surprises, and even less for excuses."
